In Farsi and Arabic, nafas means breath or air; it is a life-sustaining force that symbolizes existence, the essence of one's being, and is used as a term of endearment. The object, "Nafas," is a 3D optical glass resin print of Asgary's labored breath. She blew into plaster until it set, creating a crater that was 3D scanned and printed. Mirroring water and geological forms, Asgary invokes the hidden labor behind tunneled waterways (qanats) through her breath—each breath shaping the waterways, each breath lost—tracing her familial lineage across time.
